TARIQ - He’s the bossy boss who gets us to actually do something. The motivater if you like. Tariq can talk for a very long time too! He’s the original CH man – Tariq practically IS The Children’s Hour – alhamdulillah, he has been involved with RRL since it began over a decade ago! He can make the smallest of things mind-blowingly confusing which is usually either absolutely hilarious or it makes your head hurt... His favourite nasheed used to be "Bismillah" but now he has ‘moved on’ – but he still loves it – his daughter, Maryam, enjoys falling asleep to "Alhamdulillah" by Dawud Wharnsby Ali too! Tariq’s most favourite food is keema kareleh (that’s a curry for those of you who don’t know)! Tariq’s favourite sport has to be wrestling – he loves WWE etc. The show just wouldn’t be the same without Tariq!
JAWAD - Assalamualaikum-wa-rahmatullahi-barakatuh! I’m Jawad but I have loads of nicknames! I’m 16 years old (nearly 17!) so I am studying for my AS levels at college at the moment. I enjoy swimming, athletics and cross-country running. I play football when I have to but I must admit that I am not a crazy fanatic of the sport. The family likes cricket and on the very rare occasion I get dragged into playing that too. My favourite nasheeds are probably "Flowers are Red" by Zain Bhika, "Songs of Innocence" by Talib-ul-Habib, "The Veil" by Dawud Wharnsby Ali and "My Ummah" by Sami Yusuf; but I enjoy pretty much all of the nasheeds! Food wise I’m not too fussy (but I hate liver and kidneys!) - I love anything that has chicken in it really! I have been part of Young Muslims Luton for absolutely ages! My eldest brother was involved so I used to tag along from a young age but I became more regular in 1999. Alhamdulillah, I have been fortunate enough to be involved in CH work since 2005 and I always enjoy my time with RRL. I am also the so called ‘secretary’ so I end up with lots of boring bits and bobs coming my way... I always used to take part in the show myself since I was lil’ kid so it has been really fantastic to be able to help out with The Children’s Hour show (‘The Family Quiz’ back in the day)!
ASAR - Assalamualaikum. Generally my name is Asar, although people have given me some nicknames in addition to my original too! I’m 16 and at college where I’m studying Maths, Economics, Chemistry and Physics. My favourite nasheed is probably My Ummah by Sami Yusuf. People say I eat a lot; and that’s an understatement! Favourite food is donner meat with chips but I like eating at chicken and chip type places as a whole! I love to eat lemons too – and don’t pull a face upon hearing that! I’ve been part of YM for two and bit years and I started helping out with RRL in 2006 as a back-up presenter but I helped out loads this year with getting the material ready for this year’s Children’s hour. I’m usually a really lively and happy dude!
WAQAR - He’s the boss this year! He’s doing a lot of the work with editorialing and getting everybody’s work together... and filling in the missing bits by himself: does loads of behind the scenes work basically!
SENIORS & MANAGEMENT TEAM
FARJAD - Salaam. My name is Farjad and I am 16. Some of you may remember me a back-up presenter in 2006 but this year I am helping out with the preparation of resources too. In my free time I like to hang around with friends, play video games. Surf the internet and play sports. I am a pretty good runner! In the future I want to be a businessman and own a Ferrari (which is my favourite car and thus nickname)! My favourite part of The Children’s Hour has to be ‘The Yes and No Game’ as I love catching people out! I enjoy presenting at the radio station because it has a good atmosphere where I have lots of mates. My favourite nasheed is "Can’t You See" by Rashid Bhika and my favourite food is McDonalds! I have been part of YM for over two years and I helped out with RRL a little bit last year, hopefully I wish to stay with RRL in the future.
WAQAS - Salaam! My name is Waqas, I’m 16 and just starting college. I don’t have any favourite sports but I’m into video/computing games and that sort of stuff. Picking a favourite nasheed is quite hard; but it would be between "Deen you Know" (Native Deen) or "Hasbi Rabbi" (by Sami Yusuf). I have too many favourite foods so I’m not going to bore you with listing them all... I have been in YM for about 2 years now and this is my first year of properly helping out with Children’s hour but I was a back-up presenter in 2006.
AMAR - Salaam. People call me by the name Amar Faiz, I am 16 years old and I have just started college. I am very fond of the nasheed 'Allah Knows' by Zain Bhikha. I am usually not very picky about what food I eat but if I were to choose a favorite it would have to be chicken wrap! My hobbies include a variety of sports including badminton and swimming and cricket. I am also known to pose with my chin quite often so I guess that would also be one of my hobbies. I have been part of Young Muslims for nearly two and a half years. I have also been a part of Radio Ramadhan Luton for a year, but I was not very involved – I tended to just wander into the studio every so often - but this Ramadhan I have started doing some actual work! I try my best to stay dedicated towards Islam and I have the help of the YM and RRL brothers to keep me on the right path.
AMMAD - Assalamualkium , My name is Ammad Saeed. I'm 16 years old and go to high school where, Inshallah, I will be sitting my GCSEs this year!. My hobbies include playing all sports, computer games and just relaxing. My favourite and best sport is cricket. My favourite food is chicken donner and my favourite nasheed would have to be The Prophet's Hands. I am starting year 11 and Inshallah have my GCSE's this year. I have been involved with Young Muslims in Luton since I was seven so almost 10 years now (1998 but more regular since 2004) and this is my 3rd year of helping out with radio Ramadhan. But I haven't worked this seriously for radio Ramadhan Luton before.
SUPPORT WORKERS
ZESHAN - Salaam, I’m Zeshan, I’m 16 and I’m now at college where I’m studying further maths, economics, chemistry and biology. "Why are the drums so silent" by Dawud Wharnsby Ali has to be my favourite nasheed – it’s a tune! I love eating keema naans – they’re too good. I’ve been part of YM since 2003 and I started presenting and researching for children’s hour two Ramadhans ago back in 2005. I am, generally, pretty friendly and get on with everyone!
IBRAHIM - It is his first time getting involved with the show and he is the youngest member of the team! He is a year 10 student and joined YM about a year ago. I’m guessing his favourite sport is football because he is always nagging everybody to play!
UMER - The emergency helper who has once again been whisked into helping the team out! His last minute help in researching and preparing has saved everybody a lot of chaos! Rather eccentric young chap and, on the odd occasion, he can be quite funny!
