ANNOUNCEMENT: Radio Ramadhan Luton was unable to secure a licence this Ramadhan, so with regret we have to announce that we are off air. There were multiple applications for the licence in our area and we were unsuccessful in our bid.
Radio Ramadhan Luton is more then just a broadcaster; it is an institution; a public service that has worked tirelessly for the past 12 years, on and off air to bring understanding between the different Muslim communities and between all the communities that make up Luton. We helped bring about a unified sehri/iftari timetable and we helped clarify the issues around a common calendar.
We created an excellent relationship with the Statutory Service providers; BBC Three Counties radio delivered a number of their programs from our premises and we were a focus for a plethora of international media organisation during the Earthquakes in Northern Pakistan/Kashmir. In fact during the Earthquake, while the international media focussed on the relatively accessible Islamabad area, we were able to use our contacts to bring news right from the epicentre, in the areas of Muzaffarabad and Balakot. We would also like the think that we played our part in galvanising the community in support of the relief effort.
Finally, we would like to say, we may be off air, but our work continues, to help make Luton a vibrant place it is. |
